Musical Renaissance

I'm beginning to think I was born in the wrong decade. Over the past few months I have become so fascinated by the mid 1960s and early 1970s, that I see myself behaving in a specific manner and making certain decisions to recreate my own version of that era in the present day. I want to capture the free-spirit mentality and artistic culture that I love so much about the 60s and blend it into my everyday life. I loved the 60s and 70s as a whole, but I think part of what makes me love it so much is my favorite band,The Velvet Underground. I've found that there is a distinct and even deeper correspondence to my favorite band. I had always loved them, even when I was a younger child, but as of recently The Velvet Underground has made it's way back into my life in a whole different manner. It's as if I've experienced some form of reawakening that I've never felt before and although the undertone of much of their music is rather sad and does talk about an awful amount of drug use, I somehow seem to connect to it. Just in case any of you are unfamiliar with this band, here are a few images to give you some background.

I also just recently finished reading a book called Just Kids  by Patti Smith (pictured directly above , a writer and musician, that was just getting started in the mid 60s. The book talks about her many hardships as a struggling artist, but how along the way she meets so many amazing people that lead her to her succes. She meets so many famous figures, like Janice Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, she has lunch with Allen Ginsberg and meets up with Jack Kerouac, and so many others including the band members from The Velvet Underground.
